Twitter Strikes Deal with Google

Twitter has just struck a deal with search engine giants Google, to allow all tweets to now be included in all Google search results.

The deal, announced last week, sees Twitter provide Google access to its firehose of data, ensuring a smoother process for Google’s algorithm to pick up search results involving public Twitter account users’ tweets.

Twitter CE0, Dick Costolo, confirmed the deal at their Q4 2014 earnings call, announcing that the feature will, “roll out several months from now.” Twitter’s growth has slowed in recent months, with only 4 million new users in Q4 2014, 3 million less than their predicted 291 million active users forecasted.

However, Twitter shareholders will be glad to hear a 97% increase in revenue year on year, demonstrating marketers increased value in the social networks ad features.

By partnering with Google, internet users may be more convinced to join Twitter, or on the other hand, may not feel like they need to? Although JP Morgan analyst, Doug Anmuth, thinks there are, “…more opportunities for Twitter to convert, and possibly monetize, logged-out users,” as well as mutually benefiting Google as it improves the quality of their service, “for Google, we believe search results will be enhanced by access to real-time tweets and a much broader amount of content,”
