6 Criteria Needed To Get Verified On Twitter

We live in a day and age where millennials are more concerned about how many followers they have on Twitter and Instagram more than their future career paths. Bad right?

Having worked in social media marketing for a couple of years now, one of the main questions I get asked as a social media marketer, is, ‘how do I get verified?’

Working and liaising with Twitter on a weekly basis we have a good idea on what exactly is required to get your Twitter profile verified, so we thought we’d put together 6 criteria to needed that will help you get verified on Twitter.

 1) No fake followers

Buying fake followers puts your profile at risk of ever getting verified, as you possess a variety of fake users following you, plus you aren’t doing your profile any favours in general.

2) Healthy Followers: Following ratio

Having a healthy followers:following ratio makes your accent look more prestigious, as people are obviously following you for a good reason and often a popular characteristic amongst most verified profiles, but not all!

3) Linking Your Website

Twitter state that, ‘Linking to your Twitter profile from an official website is the easiest way to confirm the authenticity of your Twitter account.’

Pretty straightforward right? Don’t ask any questions, just do it.

4) Fall under one of the following categories

Twitter are more likely to verify your account if you’re in the limelight for one of the following”

Music, acting, fashion, government, politics, religion, journalism, media, sports, business and other key interest areas.

Rarely will a profile not within these peripherals get verified.

5) Follower Account Not A Factor

How many followers you have is not an influential factor when Twitter are processing whether or not to verify your account.

There are plenty examples of verified individuals with less than a thousand followers on Twitter, and is consequently not a decisive factor, as long as you meet the other requirements and justify being verified on Twitter.

6) Apply for verification

Once you’ve met all the above criteria, try filing for verification directly here.

Then keep an eye on those DM’s. where Twitter are likely to get in contact with you to authenticate the verification process.

Good luck!
