5 Reasons Snapchat is the Perfect Platform for Health and Leisure Brands ????????
Snapchat has recently surpassed Twiter with daily active users and is the most popular new social media app amongst 15-25 year olds in the U.S, U.K and Australia. Snapchat is revolutionising the way we consume content. The health and leisure industry has been quicker to jump on to Snapchat than any other market IMO.
With some great examples of personal trainers and fitness gurus rising to social media fame with purely aggressive Snapchat strategies that are informative, funny and engaging, we’ve put together our top five reasons below for why we think Snapchat is the perfect social media platform for brands in the health and leisure industry.
1) Snapchat sets its sights on the top
The past few months have been gloriously successful for Snapchat. According to recent reports, not only is it the fastest growing social media app having already overtaken Twitter and Pinterest in daily active users, but it is also one of the fastest growing social media networks ever. eMarketer indicates that the so-called self-destructing app will continue on its upward path to popularity for the next four years by which point it should be safely settled in the mainstream.
2) Recreational use
Perhaps one of the biggest USP’s of Snapchat is that it its purpose is essentially quite trivial. The self-destructing element, although now not so much its defining feature, as well as a majority of its new functions and gimmicks helps to validate its role as a recreational one. With this in mind it is easy to see why some of the world’s biggest brands such as Amazon, Taco Bell, NBA and even Hilary Clinton use Snapchat to offer insight into their usually unseen lifestyles and to illustrate the humanity behind the brands.
3) A good way to get moving
While fashion muses have made Instagram their home and the wordsmiths continue to reside over on the Twittersphere, it makes perfect sense for health and fitness fanatics to take up residence on Snapchat. Some of the most popular accounts on Snapchat belong to health and lifestyle ambassadors. BJ Gaddour for example is affiliated with Men’s Health and uses his Snapchat to guide his many viewers through workout videos which of course have a clear advantage over static images.
4) A winning recipe
A comment on the presence of the health and fitness industry on Snapchat would not be complete without mentioning one of the lead proprietors of the apparent ‘Fitstagram’ scene, Joe Wicks aka The Body Coach. This onetime personal trainer is turning over millions each month from Lean in 15, his lifestyle plan which combines healthy eating with regular exercise. Nothing new there then.

However, what is really impressive about Wicks is that he has cultivated his empire to include an army of followers, best-selling books deals and a television series all from his social media accounts, his of course favourite being Snapchat. In using his account to share video recipes, quick-hit workouts, inspirational messages and a diary of his activities he is able to offer a mix of exclusive content which keeps his followers engaged and wanting more.
5) Earn your stripes
Another brand winning a the Snapchat game is that of premier league team Southampton FC. In order to promote a new football kit, they sent fans off on a Pokemon-esque treasure hunt of the city to find a football in the Saints native stripes aided by hints and clues sent via Snapchat. This resulted in an increase of followers in a short amount of time, a very cheap promotional campaign, a tonne of positive media attention and of course, a more engaged fan-base.
