Facebook Users Given More Control Over Content

Facebook’s latest update has placed the power of selecting News Feed content fully in their users’ hands. Within this new feature, you can now modify and personalize just exactly what you want to see on your news feed, and more importantly, what you don’t.

Facebook have said that they constantly strive to locate and place relevant stories at the top of your news feed, to ensure what you find when you log in is always specific to you. Ultimately though, they appreciate that you know best, and have devised this new system whereby you can ‘improve and personalize your news feed experience’.

An aspect that’s most relevant to the every day user is their Priority feature. Rather than endlessly scrolling through photos of people you’ve frankly forgotten you even knew, you can now select the friends you want to see most easily and frequently.

This is an important modification for company pages too; users can now elect the pages they’d like to see the most, those they never want to miss a post from. So businesses creating original, stimulating content will feature at the top of user’s news feeds every morning, and those who fall short, at the bottom. We know where we’d rather be.

Alongside these updates, now users will actively discover new pages to connect with, opening up the potential for a wider content base. This discovery tool works from suggestions by Facebook, which they base on previous likes or similar pages you’ve interacted with, so it’s never far from your interests but might broaden your interact experience.

Last, but certainly not least, you can follow and unfollow friends and pages more efficiently, with the latter option being totally covert – as always. You can even see people you’ve previously unfollowed to give them a second chance, although there was probably a reason you unfollowed them in the first place.

This update is a big step for the social media user, giving them ultimate control of their Facebook experience – it’s available now on iOS, so get personalizing!
